Consultancy service

Policies your managerswill actually follow.

Handbooks, contracts and policy suites written for your sector's terms and conditions — and written in language that survives contact with a busy line manager.

The problem with most policy suites

Legally sound. Practically unused.

Almost every organisation we review has policies that are technically adequate and functionally ignored. They were bought as a template pack, lightly branded, filed on an intranet, and never read by the managers expected to apply them. When something goes wrong, the process that gets followed is whatever the manager remembers from their last job.

That gap is where risk lives. A policy nobody follows is worse than no policy at all, because a tribunal will hold you to the process you published.

How we write them differently

Sector-specific. A school's disciplinary policy has to work with the Burgundy Book and with governance sitting at governor level. An NHS policy has to work with Agenda for Change and professional regulation. A council's has to work with NJC conditions and political oversight. Generic templates do none of this.

Written for the user. Short, in plain English, structured around what the manager needs to do next rather than around legal completeness. Where a step is legally non-negotiable we say so explicitly, because managers respect a clear line far more than they respect a long paragraph.

With the operational documents attached. A policy without the invite letter, the outcome letter, the meeting record template and the checklist is only half delivered. We provide the whole set, because the letters are where errors actually occur.

What we produce

The documentation set.

Staff handbooks

A single readable document covering the terms, expectations and processes staff actually need, with the detailed policy suite behind it.

Contracts of employment

Contracts and statements of particulars for your workforce groups, including fixed-term, casual, term-time-only and variable-hours arrangements where those cause the most difficulty.

Core policy suite

Disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence, family leave, flexible working, equality, whistleblowing, disclosure and conduct policies.

Letter templates

The full operational set — invitations, outcomes, adjournments, appeals — drafted so a manager can use them without rewriting.

Manager checklists

One-page process checklists for each formal procedure, which is the document managers actually keep on their desk.

Policy review & gap analysis

An assessment of your existing suite against current requirements and sector practice, returning a prioritised list of what to fix first.

FAQs

Documentation
questions.

For retained clients, yes — policy maintenance is normally part of the retainer, and we will contact you when a change requires an amendment rather than waiting for you to notice.

For one-off drafting engagements, the documents are correct at the point of delivery and we will tell you what your review cycle should be. Employment law moves, and a policy suite left untouched for five years is a liability.

Not sure whether your policies would stand up?

A policy gap review is a fixed-fee, fixed-scope engagement that tells you where you actually are. Start with a free call.
